Below is a collection info graphics drawn from our survey data. If you want to skip past this page you can continue reading the discussion of our research findings in our section on sexual trauma - Trigger Warning.
Our survey sample was 49 participants. A further ten participants contributed in other ways.
Most of the survey questions allowed an open text 'other' response.
Many of these answers, and the raw numbers, are not visible on the charts below. Most of these charts are linked to the spreadsheet. You can hover your mouse over the blue parts of the charts you are interested in to see the full text and numbers of responses. You can click the arrow at the top right of each graph to open in them in a new window.
If you are interested in this stuff and want us to run you up some pivot tables, we are most happy to oblige.
We are sorry that the above graph is not linked to the spreadsheet in the same way as the others. We had a bit of trouble with this graph as most people gave multiple responses. Therefore the graphs we made up looked very messy indeed. We hope that the information is clear enough none the less.
We would like to point out that our qualitative results indicate that people with FND tend to shrink their worlds to cope with their physical symptoms. So while the graph above says that the largest group of respondents are coping OK, the coping mechanisms employed are not healthy and we would describe these people as putting on a brave face. We did cross check this by isolating the 'OK' group's qualitative responses to the other questions in the survey. There were was clear levels of distress, isolation and hardship among this group.
Do you know what triggered your FND? We coded these responses and put them into a word cloud generator. The size of the word indicates the frequency of response.
Do you have any other medical conditions? We coded these responses and put them into a word cloud generator. The size of the word indicates the frequency of response.
What are your main symptoms? We coded these responses and put them into a word cloud generator. The size of the word indicates the frequency of response.
